Local Area

Ilgaz is a small village of 45 houses set on the slopes of the Besparmak mountains with panoramic views of mountains and the sea. It is 3kms up the mountain from the main Kyrenia to Alsancak road. The village is a mixture of old and new properties inhabited by a mix of Turkish Cypriot, Turkish and British residents. It is a quiet and friendly village. Within the village is a Turkish cafe, Ilgaz Koy Firin Cafe where they bake their own bread in traditional style bread ovens and provide a generous Turkish breakfast along with lunch or supper by arrangement. On the edge of the village is Etel Winery with its vineyards. Gillham Vineyard Hotel is a small hotel which has an excellent restaurant and a Wine Bar with stunning views across the vineyards where you can sit and drink from their selection of delicious wines including wines from grapes grown in Ilgaz. There is a tapas menu at the Wine Bar. Also in Ilgaz village is Trattoria Vineyard for homemade pizzas and pasta.

Getting Here

There are two ways to get to Ilgaz in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

ERCAN AIRPORT

Ercan Airport is the only airport in the TRNC. Northern Cyprus is predominantly Turkish speaking and the currency is the Turkish Lira. Flights to Ercan airport (sometimes called Lefkosa or Nicosia Airport) have to land in Turkey wherever you are flying from and you will need to change planes. The drive from Ercan airport to Ilgaz is approximately 50 minutes. We can arrange for a taxi to collect you from Ercan or for a hire car to be provided for you at the airport and email you detailed directions.

LARNACA AIRPORT

Larnaca Airport is in South Cyprus. South Cyprus is predominantly Greek speaking and the currency is the Euro. Flights from UK to Larnaca are direct. The drive from the airport to Ilgaz is approximately 75 minutes. PLEASE NOTE There is a border crossing between South and North Cyprus. If you have a UK / EU passport then the border crossing is straightforward. We can arrange for a taxi transfer to collect you from Larnaca airport and bring you straight to Ilgaz. At the border the driver will show your passports to the officials while you sit in the taxi for a few minutes. You can hire a car from Larnaca airport and drive yourselves however many car hire companies in the Greek side (the South) will not allow you to bring their car across the border. Your insurance from the car hire company becomes null and void when you cross the border where you will be required to purchase insurance to cover you whilst you are in TRNC. We would suggest that the most relaxing way to arrive is for a taxi to collect you at the airport and bring you to the villa. The car hire company will bring your hire car to the villa and do the paperwork with you at the villa. We can arrange your transfers and car hire.

  • Thoroughly relaxing holiday in a beautiful villa.
Lovely relaxing stay at the Stone House in Ilgaz. Beautiful villa with everything you could possibly need and very generous welcome pack on arrival. Lovely pool, great views down to the sea and totally private outdoor terrace area.
Carola and Oz were perfect hosts, so friendly and on hand if we needed anything. Would recommend Hoots and Trattoria Vineyard for evening meals. The bakery opposite doea a great Turkish breakfast as does Soora Garden Restaurant, a short drive from Ilgaz.
We had such a great time we have booked again for next year.

  • Wonderful property.
This is the third property we have rented from the owners - they have all been wonderful. The Stone House was clean and comfortable, with private parking and a lovely, secluded private pool (just to note there is no shallow end if visiting with young children).
The village of Ilgaz has a lovely restaurant (Hoots) and a great Turkish breakfast venue and the wonderful Gillham Vineyard (with a bar, restaurant, wine tours and spa treatments) all within a short walking distance, and there are numerous restaurants, bars and beaches a short drive away.
The owners are lovely. They helped to organise the taxi from Larnaca and the car hire (the car was awaiting for us when we got to the villa).
We would definitely recommend visiting Ilgaz and staying in one of Oz and Carola's wonderful properties.

  • We had an amazing two weeks at this gorgeous property. It is well maintained, well laid out and in a stunning location. Our hosts, Carola and Oz, are truly great hosts. We have stayed at their properties for almost nine years now. We have always found the experience joyful. We are counting down the time to our next trip there.

  • This villa really is beautiful. It has been restored to keep many of the original features and is of a very high standard. The photos do not show just how lovely the villa is. When my family and I first walked into the villa we were blown away with the views. The villa contains everything that you need for a self catering stay, with a generous welcome basket included. It was impeccably clean and is very quiet.
The cafe across the road serves an excellent breakfast and is very popular with the locals but due to the way the villa is situated you do not hear anything even when they are very busy.
Our hosts were excellent with their communication and very kind. We hope to stay at the Stone House again in the future.

  • Lovely stone house, peaceful village.
Couldn't fault this beautifully renovated traditional stone house, with its modern amenities yet keeping with tradition. Deceptively spacious with magnificent views. Although the bakery / cafe is across the road it was surprisingly quiet and not overlooked. Very friendly cafe owners, so much so, they allowed us to purchase some beers when they weren't open to save us heading down to the shop. As for Carola and Oz, nothing was too much rouble and just such a warm and friendly couple.
    Can't wait to return!!!

  • Up in the mountains it is a very tranquil place to relax and enjoy and beautiful in the spring.
Having previously owned a villa quite near for 20 years and spending 5-6 months a year in North Cyprus, we visited friends who stayed here last year and were attracted by the unique eclectic well-designed conversion of a traditional village stone house offering splendid facilities and were very pleased to rent it this year for a month. It achieved all we wanted - peace and quiet and close to 4 good restaurants and the vineyard and the very green mountains above for walks and meeting old friends. The owners were very friendly and ensured we had all we needed.
The views down the valley to the sea are spectacular, away from the busy coastal road. The pool is superb and warm enough in April - May for swimming and very private.
The Stone House will not disappoint and we hope to return in the autumn.

  • A tranquil retreat in Ilgaz, Northern Cyprus.
We recently had the pleasure of staying in The Stone House, a charming 2 bedroom villa with a private pool in Ilgaz, a mountain village in Northern Cyprus. Our hosts Carola and Oz were nothing short of delightful and the villa offers a perfect space to escape from everyday life.
The interior of the villa is beautifully and tastefully decorated, combining modern amenities with traditional rustic touches. The living area provides a relaxing space, with comfortable furnishings and large windows that offer breath taking views of the valley and coast below. The bedrooms are cozy yet spacious, with very comfortable beds and air conditioning units.
One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the private pool. Surrounded by sun loungers and shaded seating areas, we could unwind and soak up the Mediterranean sunshine while enjoying the amazing views.
the location of this villa is ideal for those seeking peace and quiet away from tourist crowds but within walking distance (50 minutes down the mountain) of the coast and shops. there are various restaurants in the village offering fantastic food and a welcoming atmosphere.
We would highly recommend this villa to anyone seeking an idyllic break in Northern Cyprus. We will definitely be returning.

  • As friends of Carola and Oz we visited the Stone House as they were putting the finishing touches to the refurbishment of this lovely property in the centre of the village of Ilgaz. The house has a beautiful feel to it, built from local stone it has views to the mountains and towards the coast. The lounge and kitchen area is flooded with light and opens out onto a fabulous terrace and pool area. We loved the features that had embedded traditional pieces into the fabric of the building. It has two large bedrooms and an inside bathroom with walk-in shower as well as a bathroom out in the courtyard area. The huge glass doors in the house offer great views but the bedrooms are designed to enable a good nights sleep including air con units and shutters for the windows.
The house has its own parking and is opposite the village cafe and bakery for those early morning breakfasts or bread. The village also has a bistro and a vineyard with wine bar for eating and drinking.
This is in my top three places to stay with Ilgaz Holidays and we look forward to visiting again.
